In our 3rd Podcast we meet with Alan Rosenbach, M.D., a board-certified and Diplomat of the American Board of Dermatology specializing in laser procedures and dermatological surgery. Dr. Todd and Dr. Alan have a lively conversation and debate about whether or not evidence is used in the field of dermatology. They focus on the diagnosis of different dermatological diseases, cosmetic procedures, botox, skin cancer, and the use of sunscreen.
We also find out if the questions and answers found on the board certification test in dermatology is based on reliable and valid evidence or not, and why it is important to find a dermatologist who is board certified. Dr. Rosenbach also comments on his use of evidence and studies in his practice and problems he sees in the health care system.
Dr. Rosenbach is a Clinical Associate Professor of Dermatology at the University of Southern California’s Keck School of Medicine. His research and practice interests include laser surgery and cosmetic dermatology. He is one of a small number of physicians in the U.S. to have completed a prestigious laser surgery fellowship. He is a leading laser authority, contributing numerous articles to medical journals and textbooks.
He is an expert in the diagnosis of skin cancer using a technique called digital dermoscopy, which aids in diagnosing melanoma in its earliest stages. Dr. Rosenbach is a graduate of The University of Texas Medical Branch and completed dermatology residency training at The State University of New York Downstate Medical Center. Los Angeles Magazine recently named Dr. Rosenbach a 2013 Super Doctor. The Hollywood Reporter named Dr. Rosenbach one of Hollywood’s Top Doctors.
